Iran and the US have failed to come up with an agreement in their talks after several hours of discussions in Islamabad due to the fact that Iran was unwilling to accept the conditions set by the Americans after the discussion which lasted for twenty-one hours, Vice President JD Vance said.
"It's unfortunate we've been unable to conclude an agreement and I think it's unfortunate for Iran a little bit more than it's unfortunate for the United States of America," said Vice President JD Vance, head of the American delegation, speaking to reporters just prior to his departure from Islamabad after the highest level of talks between the US and Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
Vance pointed out that Iran did not want to accept "our terms." The US, according to him, must be convinced of "fundamental commitment" on the part of Iran about not acquiring a nuclear weapon.
"We need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon," Vance noted.
Speaking about the recent discussions with America on Sunday, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that no one had thought talks would end in an agreement in just one discussion.
"Obviously, at first, we could not expect any agreement to be reached in one sitting. This was never expected," Esmaeil Baghaei stated in a news release on state TV broadcaster IRIB.
"He expressed confidence that our interactions with Pakistan as well as with other countries in the region would continue," he said.
"Pakistan's role in achieving a truce is appreciated by both sides. On behalf of Pakistan, I would like to thank both sides to appreciate Pakistan's efforts and mediating role in this regard. We hope that the two sides pursue the process in the same positive spirit to achieve sustainable peace and prosperity in this region and beyond," the foreign minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, said.
A war was launched against Iran by the US and Israel on February 28. It affected the whole Middle East area and Tehran responded back with attacks against Israel and other neighboring Gulf states where the US forces were present. Over 2,000 individuals were killed in the US-Israeli attacks against Iran.
