UNSC condemns Kohat mosque attack, calls for perpetrators to face justice

The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the suicide attack on a mosque in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and called for those behind the attack, including its planners, financiers and facilitators, to be brought to justice.

In a statement issued by Security Council President and France’s representative Jérôme Bonnafont, the Council described the September 18 attack as a serious act of terrorism.

At least 24 people, including seven civilians and 17 law-enforcement personnel, were killed, while 88 others were injured. A terrorist group, including elements linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, claimed responsibility.

The Council expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the people and government of Pakistan, while wishing the injured a full recovery. It reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms remains a major threat to international peace and security.

UNSC members stressed that those responsible must be held accountable and urged countries to cooperate with Pakistan in bringing the perpetrators to justice in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
