Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s upcoming high-profile visit to Washington could result in the signing of a major defence pact between the two countries, with details still under wraps, according to a report by the Financial Times.

The potential agreement is being viewed as strategically crucial, given the growing instability in the Middle East, where Israel continues its aggression against Muslim countries without restraint or accountability.

The Financial Times cited US officials describing the defence pact with Riyadh as the “strong bedrock of our regional strategy.”

An unnamed official added that the pact is expected to be signed upon the Crown Prince’s arrival, with negotiations currently underway to finalise the deal.

Recently, the United States signed a similar defence pact with Qatar, under which both nations pledged to defend each other’s borders in the event of any foreign aggression.

This agreement followed an Israeli strike on Doha, which targeted Hamas leadership involved in mediation efforts. The attack resulted in the deaths of five people, including the son of Hamas chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya and a Qatari security official.

Meanwhile, Islamabad also signed a significant defence pact with Riyadh, as both nations renewed their deep-rooted ties through expanded cooperation in security and technology.

Under the agreement, the two countries will exchange arms, share weapons technology, and collaborate on multiple fronts to counter threats and defend each other against foreign aggression.
