Three employees of Qatar’s Amiri Diwan, the Gulf nation’s highest government body, were killed in a road accident near Sharm el-Sheikh, a resort city on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, the Qatari Embassy in Cairo confirmed in a statement on Sunday.

According to the embassy, two others were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

The embassy added that the bodies of the deceased and the injured individuals will be repatriated to Doha later on Sunday.

Earlier, Egyptian security sources told Reuters that the vehicle carrying Qatari diplomats overturned on a curved section of a road about 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Sharm el-Sheikh.

The tragic incident occurred just days after officials from Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt took part in indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh that led to an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan.

Sharm el-Sheikh is also scheduled to host a global summit on Monday aimed at finalizing the implementation of that agreement.
