Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government backed out of security-related commitments during the final phase of negotiations between the federal government and the PTI.

In a post on X, Naqvi said the KP government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours covering security and counterterrorism measures.

He said the provincial government had also agreed to reconsider the Police Act 2026 in light of the security situation and to keep security matters separate from political interference.

According to Naqvi, the KP government had agreed to take measures to prevent terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens in the province.

The minister said the provincial government had also agreed to unequivocally condemn the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist groups.

He added that the KP government had agreed to support the national policy on Afghan refugees, including their repatriation and the dismantling of Afghan camps in the province.

Naqvi further said the provincial government had agreed to avoid contact with the Afghan Taliban regime, provide additional funding for counterterrorism operations and police, take ownership of counterterrorism measures and strengthen cooperation with the armed forces.

The KP government had also agreed to take decisions regarding counterterrorism in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and merged districts and implement the National Action Plan, he said.
