Netanyahu cuts New York visit short amid security warnings: reports

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shortened his upcoming New York visit to several hours and will return to Israel on the same day after addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli media reported.

Channel 13 reported that Israeli security officials had advised Netanyahu against extending his stay in the United States following several high-level assessments in recent days. The report said the briefings included specific intelligence warnings, but did not disclose their nature.

Under the revised schedule, Netanyahu is expected to arrive in New York on Thursday, address the 81st session of the UNGA and leave for Israel later that day without staying overnight.

His visit is also expected to coincide with demonstrations in New York over Israel’s military operations in Gaza and its policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Netanyahu is not currently scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump during the visit. US officials have attributed the absence of a meeting to scheduling issues.

A planned stop in Texas for a meeting with businessman Elon Musk was also cancelled, according to reports. The revised itinerary leaves Netanyahu’s UNGA address as the main public engagement of the trip.
