A five-year-old girl died after a kite string cut her throat while she was riding a motorcycle with her father and grandfather in Karachi’s Teen Hatti area.

Rescue officials said the girl was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in an Edhi ambulance. She was identified as Saniya Noor Rehman.

According to details, the girl was sitting in her maternal grandfather’s lap while her father was riding the motorcycle when a kite string suddenly wrapped around her neck, leaving her critically injured. She later died.

Edhi officials said the family took the girl’s body to Korangi after completing the legal formalities.

Initially, Liaquatabad, Sharifabad and Super Market police stations were informed that the incident had occurred at the Liaquatabad No 10 flyover. It was later established that it had taken place near the Syed Noor Ali Shah shrine in Teen Hatti.

When contacted, Jamshed Quarters SHO Imran Afridi said he was unaware of the incident and that the police station had not yet received any information from the hospital. He added that police were looking into the matter.
