Israel kills one more Palestinian journalist in Gaza, death toll rises to 262

A Palestinian journalist, associated with Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera, was martyred in an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Wednesday.

The latest killing has pushed the number of journalists killed since October 2023 to 262, according to local authorities.

The Gaza Government Media Office said that the death of Mohammed Wishah, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, is part of a “systematic targeting and assassination” of Palestinian journalists by Israel.

The office called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and media organisations around the world to “condemn these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media workers in Gaza.”

It also urged the international community and relevant bodies to “stop these repeated attacks,” hold those responsible accountable in international courts, and “exercise serious and effective pressure to stop the crime of genocide” while protecting journalists in the region.

Since October 2023, more than 72,000 people have been killed and over 171,000 others injured in Gaza due to the Israeli military campaign, which was paused under a US-backed ceasefire later that year.

However, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks have continued, resulting in at least 733 deaths and 2,034 injuries among Palestinians since the ceasefire took effect.
