Grand Mosque muezzin Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani passes away

Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani, a muezzin at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, died in the early hours of Monday, September 21, according to Inside the Haramain.

Al Madani’s final call to prayer at the Grand Mosque was the Fajr adhan on Monday, according to the report. Footage shared by Inside the Haramain showed him delivering the call earlier in the day, hours before his death.

Funeral prayers for Al Madani are scheduled to be held after the Asr prayer on Monday at the Grand Mosque. He will be buried at Al Mualla Cemetery in Makkah.

Born in Madinah in 1976, Al Madani came from a religious family and was influenced by his grandfather, who had memorised the Quran. He later obtained an academic qualification in Qur’anic Studies.

Al Madani began calling the adhan at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah at the age of 15. He continued the role alongside three neighbours on a rotating basis until completing his college education.

He later stepped away from the role due to teaching commitments outside Madinah before resuming as a muezzin at Masjid Al-Maddah in 2007-08.

He was formally appointed as a muezzin at the Grand Mosque in Makkah in 2017-18.

Having grown up in Madinah, Al Madani was influenced by the Madinan style of the adhan. He also became familiar with the Makkan style through visits to Makkah with his father, where he met Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former Grand Mosque muezzin and a friend of his grandfather.
