A mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada, has left 10 people dead, including the suspected shooter, and more than 25 injured.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, they received reports of gunfire at the high school round 1:20 p.m. local time, which prompted a Police Initiated Public Alert urging residents to shelter in place. 

They further reported that they discovered six people dead inside upon reaching the site of the incident. While another victim died while being transported to a hospital. Two further fatalities were found at a residence nearby and are believed to be linked to the shooting. 

Furthermore, the suspect was also found dead at the scene, with police indicating the cause appeared to be a self-inflicted injury. 

Meanwhile RCMP have confirmed that they there are no more suspects or an ongoing threat to the public. 

The injured have been transported to local medical facilities for treatment. Emergency teams also airlifted critically wounded victims. 

School District 59 announced that local schools would remain closed for the rest of the week as a safety precaution. 

Investigation into the deadly incident in underway.
