The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the imposition of governor’s rule and a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Peshawar High Court.
On Sunday, the federal government on Sunday imposed governor’s rule in KP and emergency in 12 of its districts, citing the PTI-led provincial government’s “deliberate disengagement” from the fight against terrorism.
The proclamations now require Parliament’s approval.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that the party had challenged the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in the Peshawar High Court.
Barrister Gohar stated that the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency had brought the democratically elected provincial government to an end.
He expressed hope that the court would restore the democratic government in the province.
He added that the party had requested an early hearing of the petition and would continue its constitutional and legal struggle.
