Journalist Zafar Abbas has spoken out about alleged scams related to the Gul Plaza tragedy, claiming that some individuals are fabricating stories to receive financial aid.
Abbas, who says he is an eyewitness, stated that he has seen people stealing goods from the Gul Plaza market. He noted that families are visiting the site and making videos, some of which have gone viral.
He highlighted one video of a woman claiming that two of her sisters, who were in Australia and Spain, died in the fire.
According to Abbas, the video was shared on over 200,000 pages. He said he immediately contacted the DIG after seeing it. Abbas also claimed that the same woman had approached him during a 2012 incident to blackmail him.
He further alleged that another person, who claimed his mother and sister died in the incident, is also a fraud, having been involved in more than 50 similar incidents.
Abbas concluded that the situation is worsening, with groups of people having no connection to the incident exploiting the tragedy with fabricated stories solely to obtain financial aid.
