Umme Rubab Chandio urges IG police to arrest cousin’s 'killers'

Prominent social activist and Sindh rights campaigner Umme Rubab Chandio has urged Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho for the immediate arrest of those accused of murdering her cousin.

In the video message issued from Dadu, Umme Rubab Chandio said her father's young cousin was brutally killed 18 days ago by the same individuals who had previously been acquitted by a court.

She alleged that after the initial police response on the day of the incident, no meaningful progress had been made in apprehending the suspects, who remain at large.

Questioning the police response, Chandio said that during her nine-year campaign for justice she had never seen the force appear so powerless. She asked whose influence was preventing the police from arresting the alleged contract killers, whom she claimed were not even known to ordinary police personnel.

Referring to the case involving the killing of her father, grandfather, and uncle eight years ago, Rubab Chandio alleged that the main accused, Murtaza Chandio, who she said had previously received protection from Sardar Chandio, had once again gone into hiding and that in an attempt to implicate the complainant's family.

Umme Rubab Chandio said her family had consistently pursued justice through legal would lie not only with the alleged perpetrators and influential figures she named, but also with senior police officials due the police were reluctant to arrest him.

She further alleged that Sardar Chandio was planning to have the alleged contract killers harmed in an attempt to implicate the complainant's family.

Chandio said her family had consistently pursued justice through legal and peaceful means and would continue its legal battle until the end.

Chandio warned that if any further harm came to her or her family, responsibility would lie not only with the alleged perpetrators and influential figures she named, but also with senior police officials due to what she described as negligence. She specifically named Sindh IG Javed Alam Odho, Hyderabad DIG Tariq Dharejo, and Dadu SSP Saddam Khaskheli.
