Poliovirus detection triggers vaccination drive

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi District Administration has decided to conduct another anti-polio campaign from August 10-13 due to detection of polio virus in sewage samples collected from Rawalpindi District.

The decision was taken in a meeting of District Polio Eradication Committee, presided over by Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Nadeem Nasir. Health Department officers, WHO Coordinator Dr Shumaila, Polio Eradication Program representative officers and relevant department officers were present in the meeting.

All aspects related to planning for operation of the polio campaign, including micro plan, distribution of vaccination teams, coverage of high risk areas, security, cold chain, logistics, social mobilization and monitoring mechanism were thoroughly discussed in the meeting.

It has been decided to give polio vaccine drops to 989,924 children less than 5 years of age in Rawalpindi District during 4 days long campaign. 4,215 mobile teams, 232 fixed teams, 176 transit teams, 686 area in charge teams and 200 UCMOs would be deployed for this purpose.
