A Karachi court on Thursday allowed police to keep three suspects in custody for seven days to complete investigation into the murder of a young doctor, Akash Kumar, who was shot dead during a robbery near Teen Talwar.

The suspects were produced before District South Judicial Magistrate Zahid Ali after their arrest in connection with the killing.

The police requested a 14-day physical remand, informing the court that efforts are underway to trace their accomplices, including a woman allegedly linked to the crime. They also said they are trying to recover the motorcycles and car used in the incident, along with the cash reportedly taken during the offence.

According to investigators, a white Suzuki Alto believed to have been used by the suspects to escape, three pistols and several mobile phones have already been recovered.

After hearing the prosecution, the magistrate granted police a seven-day physical remand instead of the 14 days sought.

The murder of Dr Kumar, who was serving as a house officer at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), has prompted strong reactions from doctors across Karachi. Medical professionals held demonstrations at the hospital, while the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) described the killing as a reflection of the worsening law and order situation in the city.
