There has been a major development in the Dr Warda Mushtaq murder case as the main suspect, Shamrez, was killed on Sunday evening in a police encounter in Thandiani, Abbottabad.

Shamrez was missing since Dr Warda’s abduction earlier this month. Police confirmed that he was found in the Thandiani-Kundla area and killed during a raid after intelligence reported about his whereabouts.

Haroon-ur-Rasheed, the district police officer, claimed that police first attempted to arrest Shamrez but he opened fired which led to the fiery combat between the police and the suspect. Shamrez was killed as a result, while two of his partners fled into the nearby forest. Police are still on the lookout for the remaining suspects.

Later, the body of Shamrez, was shifted to Ayub Medical Complex. The DPO also stated that the media was not allowed inside the hospital. He said that the raid was significantly challenging due to armed resistance by Shamrez and his allies.

Dr Warda’s abduction and killing sparked huge outrage in public and the case demanded immediate action and justice, hence, a high-level JIT was formed by the provincial government to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry into the doctor’s killing, highlighting the gravity of the incident. There has been credible progress in the case so far.
