A district and sessions court in Karachi sentenced a man to jail for 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for throwing acid on his wife.

Additional Sessions Judge (Central) Zabiha Khattak handed down the imprisonment to the accused, Shabbir, and imposed a fine of Rs 1 million.

The court also directed that the amount be given to the complainant in compensation, otherwise, the convict would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment on default.

The court declared that the prosecution proved its case against the accused,while the evidence on record also connected him with the commission of the offence.

The FIR of the acid attack was registered at the Ajmeer Nagri police station in July, 2021.

The victim, Hajra, said that her husband threw acid on her over a domestic dispute.

In her petition, she claimed that the suspect used to beat her on minor issues.

Hajra also claimed that two months prior to the incident, her husband attacked her with a knife, however, she managed to survive the attack.
