Bangladesh beat Australia by nine wickets in historic Test upset

Bangladesh secured a historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the first Test of the series at Marrara Oval in Darwin on Sunday.

Chasing 57 runs for victory, Bangladesh reached the target with the loss of one wicket, with Mominul Haque hitting the winning runs off Beau Webster.

Australia were bowled out for 284 in their second innings after resuming the fourth day on 161-4. Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a key role with four wickets, while Hasan Mahmud took nine wickets across the match.

Cameron Green scored 104 for Australia, registering his third Test century and first on home soil. His innings helped Australia extend their lead after Bangladesh had taken control of the match.

Bangladesh had posted 426 in their first innings, with Tanzid Hasan scoring 101, before dismissing Australia for 198.

Mehidy Hasan also contributed with 65 in Bangladesh’s first innings and dismissed Steve Smith for 44.

Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for a duck during Bangladesh’s chase, but Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque completed the remaining runs to secure the victory.

The result marks Bangladesh’s first Test win in Australia and comes 23 years after the hosts last played them in a Test series.
