Hashish worth over Rs55 million seized on arrival from US in Karachi

Pakistan Customs has thwarted two attempts to smuggle hashish worth more than Rs55 million during an anti-smuggling operation.
According to the FBR, the Air Cargo Control Unit of the Collectorate of Customs (Airport), Karachi, intercepted the consignments at the International Mail Office, Karachi.
A total of 1.87 kilograms of hashish was recovered, with an estimated market value of Rs57.43 million.
In an official statement, the FBR said that during routine scanning and examination of suspicious parcels arriving from the United States, customs officials recovered 370 grams of hashish from one parcel.
The consignment had been declared as shirts and was valued at Rs11.36 million.
In a separate case, another parcel declared as nylon carpet samples was found to contain 1.5 kilograms of concealed hashish, valued at Rs46.07 million. Separate cases have been registered for both consignments.
The statement added that the recoveries were made under the supervision of the Assistant Collector of the Air Cargo Control Unit as part of routine risk profiling and inspection procedures at the International Mail Office.
The FBR confirmed that the narcotics have been seized in accordance with relevant laws, while further legal proceedings are underway. The authority reiterated its commitment to taking effective action against drug smuggling and illegal trade through all channels, including the International Mail Office.
