Doctors at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi issued a death certificate for a newborn baby who was later found to be alive.

When the parents confirmed that the baby was still alive, the newborn was shifted on to a ventilator without wasting any time.

The parents asserted the baby was born a day earlier and the condition at birth was critical. They went on to say that on the death certificate too, doctors had confirmed handing over the body to the family.

When the baby was given to the parents, they observed that he had breath, and even they showed the child breathing while an oxygen mask was on.

The hospital administration attributed the incident to the baby's condition, identified as Lazarus syndrome, whereby breathing becomes extremely faint. They also informed that a committee has been formed to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

The administration has stated that whoever gets found to have issued the death certificate will be thoroughly taken to task.
