In a tragic incident in Rawalpindi, a seven-year-old boy drowned after falling into a sewer drain. His body was recovered three days later following an extensive search operation involving heavy machinery.
According to details, rescue teams launched a large-scale operation to retrieve the child's body, using heavy equipment to search the drainage system. Rescue sources said the boy had fallen into the drain while bathing in rainwater after recent rainfall.
Media reports identified the child as Wisal, aged seven. He had gone to bathe with friends near Kacha Stop on I.J.P. Road following the rain. During the activity, he reportedly slipped and fell into the sewer drain.
CCTV footage of the incident has also emerged. Videos circulating on social media show other children running after Wisal after he fell into the drain. Reports indicate that there was no fencing or protective barrier around the open drain.
Rescue teams began search operations on the very first day of the incident. During the operation, approximately eight kilometres of the sewerage line were searched.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident and had directed rescue authorities to continue the search using all available resources.
