A crash between a car and a trailer on Monday resulted in the deaths of six people on the National Highway in the Naushahro Feroze District of Sindh, according to officials.
Naushahro Feroze Senior Superintendent of Police Mir Rohal Khoso told Dawn that the six people who died were traveling in the car, while the trailer driver was injured.
The accident occurred between 5am and 6am, according to SSP Khoso, who said that “ostensibly, speeding and brake failure were probable reasons,” but that the issue was being investigated further.
SSP Khoso further explained that “one side of the National Highway in the district is under construction, which is a contributory factor behind increasing accidents.”
He said that, in partnership with the motorway police, it has been decided that five points will be established for the checking of the speed and roadworthiness of vehicles in order to control the increase in accidents.
Sindh Inspector General (IG) Javed Alam Odho issued a statement in which he directed Naushahro Feroze SSP to investigate the accident and file a case.
While condemning the loss of precious lives, IG Odho directed that legal proceedings be initiated against the culprits after identifying the reasons for the accident.
Road accidents resulting in deaths are common on highways in Pakistan, and the reasons are speeding, dangerous overtaking, and violation of traffic signals.
