The Sindh government has launched Pakistan’s first AI-based online training programme for teachers, aimed at modernising classroom practices and improving education standards in the province.

The initiative was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the School Education and Literacy Department (SELD), UNICEF, and Khan Academy Pakistan at a ceremony in Karachi. Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah attended as chief guest, alongside senior officials, education experts, and representatives of the partner organisations.

Under the six-month pilot project, 3,500 teachers from Dadu, Tando Allahyar, Tharparkar, and Umerkot districts will receive training. UNICEF will provide funding and ensure adherence to international standards, while Khan Academy Pakistan will deliver training and technical support.

The programme centres on Khanmigo AI, Khan Academy’s artificial intelligence-powered assistant, which is designed to support teachers with lesson planning, preparation of learning materials, and classroom engagement. Training will include live online sessions and self-paced modules.

Officials said the initiative is expected to enhance teaching practices, reduce preparation time, and make learning more interactive. They noted that AI can generate lesson plans, worksheets, quizzes, and presentations aligned with textbooks, while also offering strategies for students who learn at different paces.

Minister Sardar Shah said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to innovation in education and will help teachers enter classrooms with “greater confidence.” He added that the project would give students in remote districts access to global education standards.

Teachers who complete the training will receive official certificates, and officials said the project could serve as a model for province-wide adoption of AI-enabled teacher training.
