The Supreme Court on Monday turned down a plea seeking an immediate meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail.

The plea for an immediate meeting was moved by senior PTI leader Latif Khosa and came up before a two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, along with Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan. The bench declined the request, observing that such an order could not be issued without first hearing the government.

Following this, the court issued a notice to the government, directing it to respond on Tuesday.

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court also directed that a three-judge bench be constituted to hear appeals challenging Imran Khan’s acquittal in the cipher case. A separate three-member bench will also take up appeals filed against the acquittal of PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the same matter.

Meanwhile, while hearing Imran Khan’s bail plea in the Al-Qadir University Trust case, the court declared the petition ineffective and dismissed it accordingly.

Earlier, the apex court had fixed 13 petitions linked to Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi for hearing. It also noted that a memorandum filed by PTI, requesting jail visitation rights for the party founder, had already been sent to the relevant executive authorities to be dealt with in accordance with the law.
