A terrorist attack targeted a passenger vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Kurram district on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, according to police.

Kohat Regional Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat confirmed the attack, stating, "Six passengers lost their lives in the Lower Kurram attack." He added that authorities have launched a search operation and detained 12 suspects, seizing a significant cache of weapons.

"We will not tolerate terrorism under any circumstances," RPO Marwat said. "No one will be allowed to disrupt regional peace."

The attack occurred when unknown assailants opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing the scene, as reported by Kurram District Police Officer Kurram Malik Habib Khan. The bodies have been taken to a hospital, and an investigation is currently underway.

Member of the National Assembly Hameed Hussain strongly condemned the incident, describing it as "an attempt to disrupt the peace of the area." He expressed regret over the incident, particularly given the presence of check posts on the main highway.

The Kurram district has historically been plagued by tribal violence, largely fueled by long-standing land disputes. Last year alone, these clashes claimed at least 130 lives. However, a ceasefire agreement was reached in January this year, followed by a year-long peace deal signed in July between the Lower Kurram and Sadda tribes.
