Construction of the Munawar Chowrangi underpass in Gulistan-e-Johar has failed to meet the one-month deadline set by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, with work still in its early stages.

During a visit on February 27, the chief minister had directed authorities to complete the underpass within 30 days. However, a visit to the site after the deadline revealed that even the excavation work has yet to be completed, and the project may require several more weeks before reaching completion.

According to details, multiple phases of construction are still pending, including the completion of structural tanks, construction of retaining walls, and the installation of the roof. Additional work such as plastering, finishing, electrical systems, and drainage infrastructure also remains outstanding.

Officials said that existing gas pipelines at two locations within the underpass area have yet to be relocated, further contributing to the delay in construction progress.

The ongoing excavation has also caused significant inconvenience to commuters, as roads on both sides have been partially closed. Residents are currently مجبور to travel up to 800 metres extra to navigate around the construction site, worsening traffic congestion in the area.

The underpass project was originally initiated in February 2025, but has since faced delays, raising concerns over project management and timelines.

Authorities have not yet provided a revised completion date for the project.
