PTA warns users to update SIM details or risk losing WhatsApp access

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned that WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive, blocked, cancelled, or unregistered SIM cards could soon become inaccessible if users fail to update their details. In an advisory issued on X, the telecom regulator urged users to ensure their WhatsApp accounts remain connected to active SIMs registered in their own names.

PTA stressed that mobile numbers now form a crucial part of a person’s digital identity, warning users not to wait for unexpected logouts before updating their records. The authority advised citizens to verify their SIM registration status and complete biometric verification where required by visiting the nearest franchise or customer service centre.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority also says that people should move their WhatsApp accounts to an active sim card if their old one is not working anymore. If people do not do this, they might lose access to their chats and other important information.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is giving this warning because Pakistan is trying to make the internet a safer place. Pakistan wants to stop people from misusing phone cards that are not registered.

This year the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said that sim cards that are not used for six months or are linked to old identity cards might be blocked.

Officials have repeatedly urged citizens to use only SIMs registered in their own names and avoid sharing personal information or spreading unverified content online, emphasizing that registered subscribers would be held accountable for any misuse associated with their numbers.
