PMD forecasts thunderstorms, intermittent rain in Karachi from July 29

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting intermittent rain and thunderstorms in Karachi beginning July 29, as monsoon activity is expected to intensify across the country.

According to the PMD, moist monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are likely to influence the upper and central parts of Pakistan.

The current weather system is already affecting the country's eastern regions and is expected to strengthen further, impacting most upper and central areas from August 1.

The department has forecast widespread monsoon rainfall across Pakistan from July 29 to August 5, with intermittent heavy downpours expected in upper and central regions.

In Sindh, rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected from the evening of July 31 through August 2. Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall during this period.

The PMD has warned of the possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas and advised relevant authorities to remain on high alert.

The advisory also cautioned that landslides could occur in mountainous regions, while local streams and seasonal waterways may experience flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning may damage vulnerable structures, the department warned. Tourists, travelers, and farmers have been advised to monitor weather updates closely and take necessary precautionary measures.
