Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered a fresh investigation into the murder of Hina Javed, saying the law allowed the case to be reinvestigated.
The matter was discussed in detail at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior, chaired by Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, amid concerns raised by the victim’s family over what they described as an inadequate police investigation.
During the meeting, Hina Javed’s sister rejected the existing police investigation and levelled serious allegations, claiming that photographs of the victim’s body had not been taken and evidence at the crime scene had been tampered with.
“Hina Javed’s neck was broken, and the severity of the violence inflicted on her could not have been the work of just one person. A person driven merely by sexual frustration could not have subjected her to such extreme violence,” she said. She demanded that the original CCTV footage of the incident be handed over to the family.
Committee member Agha Rafiullah said that there were clear gaps in the police investigation and called for the formation of a judicial commission to ensure a transparent probe.
Another committee member, Nabeel Gabol, supported the demand, saying there should be no objection to forming a judicial commission if the victim’s family was not satisfied with the investigation. In response, Naqvi ordered a fresh investigation into the case.
“The law allows a case to be reinvestigated. First, we will have the case thoroughly reinvestigated. After that, we will act in accordance with the directions given by the House,” he said.
Committee chairman Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz stressed that the murder case was extremely serious and called for an immediate, transparent and impartial reinvestigation.
