The center was inaugurated by Sindh Mental Health Authority Chairman Senator Dr Karim Ahmed Khawaja and KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Wasim Qazi, according to a report.

Addressing the ceremony, Professor Qazi highlighted the growing mental health challenges in Pakistan, stressing that psychological well-being should be recognized as a national development priority.

He said the university, which has more than 47,000 enrolled students alongside a substantial teaching and non-teaching workforce, needed accessible counselling services and early intervention.

The vice chancellor cited estimates suggesting that approximately 37 per cent of Pakistan’s population experiences some form of mental stress or psychological disorder.

Senator Khawaja welcomed the initiative and pledged support for establishing a dedicated helpline for the university community, modelled on the facility operating at Dow University of Health Sciences.

The center will offer confidential counselling, therapy, awareness programs, preventive interventions and referrals where necessary.
