Security forces shot down an Indian drone in Lahore’s Manawan area on Friday, according to media reports.

The drone was intercepted immediately after it was spotted breaching Pakistani airspace, Geo News reported, quoting police sources. They said that as per initial assessments, the device appeared to be a surveillance drone as no explosives were found on it.

Intelligence agencies are currently examining the drone with an investigation under way into its flight path and mission.

The drone came just months after a brief but intense military confrontation between India and Pakistan in May, following an attack in April on Hindu pilgrims in the disputed region of Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir.

India accused Pakistan of being behind the assault, an allegation Islamabad has consistently denied.

Tensions quickly escalated, prompting Pakistan to launch a retaliatory military operation named Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. Pakistani forces struck multiple Indian military targets, shooting down several drones and fighter aircraft, including three French-made Rafale jets.

The hostilities, which lasted nearly four days, ended on 10 May following a ceasefire agreement reportedly brokered by the United States. President Donald Trump announced the truce on social media, suggesting US mediation played a key role in halting the conflict.
