Police have rescued a French woman who was allegedly subjected to domestic violence by her husband in Bara tehsil in Khyber district.

According to details, Khyber police conducted a raid on a house after receiving information on June 18 that a foreign woman was allegedly being abused there.

Officials said that the 54-year-old French national had married a Pakistani citizen and had been living in Bara since 2014. Initial investigations revealed that she had allegedly been facing mistreatment by her husband and was not allowed to leave the house.

Police shifted the woman, along with her four children, to Peshawar after taking them into protective custody.

The woman has expressed her desire to return to France, the officials said, adding that further investigation and legal proceedings are under way.

Authorities have also informed the Embassy of France in Pakistan through the Foreign Office, while a case has been registered against the woman’s husband.
