Bahawalpur teenager 'dies of torture' in Karachi police custody

A 16-year-old boy, hailing from Bahawalpur, died after allegedly being subjected to torture in the custody of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police in Karachi.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Irfan, son of Muhammad Ramazan, had reportedly come to Karachi with his friends, according to his neighbour, Azhar Zia. 

Zia stated that Irfan was detained by SIU personnel on Wednesday morning from the Ayesha Manzil area. By Thursday evening, police informed the teenager’s uncle of his death.

The victim’s relatives and community members later staged a protest, demanding justice and strict action against those responsible.

Senior police officials have taken notice of the incident and suspended seven officers, including three assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs). A departmental inquiry has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to Irfan’s death.
