Security forces carried out two intelligence-led raids in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 8, killing a total of 11 militants, the military's media wing said on Saturday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were launched after receiving information about the presence of armed militants linked to Fitna al Khawarij, the term used by the state for members of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

One of the raids took place in North Waziristan, where troops moved in on a suspected militant hideout. As the forces approached, they came under fire, triggering a prolonged gun battle. By the end of the exchange, six militants had been killed.

In a separate incident the same day, police and security forces jointly conducted an operation in Kurram district. The ISPR said five militants were killed during the encounter after they resisted arrest and opened fire.

It said weapons and ammunition were seized from the militants, adding that they had been involved in attacks on security personnel, law enforcement agencies and civilians. The statement noted that follow-up clearance operations were still ongoing to ensure no remaining militants were left in the area.

The military's media wing said that its counterterrorism efforts would continue “at full pace” to eliminate what it described as foreign-backed militancy from the country.
