The All-Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has announced a nationwide wheel-jam strike from October 10, citing the government’s failure to meet its demands.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the association in Lahore, chaired by President Nabil Mahmood Tariq. Senior Vice President Haji Irfan Sultan, Vice President Mumtaz Ali Khan, Mirza Arshad Iqbal and other office-bearers attended the meeting.
The transporters called for relief under their Charter of Demand and demanded the immediate release of containers seized during protests and sit-ins.
They also sought compensation of Rs20,000 and Rs35,000 for affected transporters, an end to the stopping and fining of vehicles over sales tax invoices, and a reduction in diesel prices.
The association further urged the federal and provincial governments to honour commitments made during the previous strike.
The transporters warned that if their demands are not accepted and relief is not provided, they will completely suspend operations across the country from October 10.
