Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said the proposed emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is being considered due to the province’s worsening security situation and is not linked to PTI’s planned long march.

Speaking to a private television channel, Chaudhry accused the K-P government of not fully cooperating with the federal government and law enforcement agencies in efforts to combat terrorism.

He said the lack of coordination had made it difficult to control the deteriorating security situation.

The minister said the issue would also be discussed during the government’s talks with PTI. He added that any political demands or requests for concessions would be considered within the constitutional and legal framework.

Chaudhry said postponing the PTI long march would not automatically end discussions over a possible emergency in K-P.

He maintained that the two matters were separate and that consultations on the emergency had already begun.

He said the federal government was assessing the potential consequences of imposing an emergency and would take a final decision after consultations.

The comments came after President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif agreed to form a committee to engage with PTI leadership amid concerns over the political and security situation.
