Pakistani actress Mariyam Nafees has sparked a crucial conversation about gender equality and safety in our society.

In a recent podcast appearance, she said that women feel unsafe due to men and are "restricted from going out because of them".

Nafees argued that the same rules applied to daughters should also be applied to sons.

"If daughters are told to come home till sunset, then the same should be the rule for sons," the Munafiq star added.

"In our society when a son is born, people say proudly, 'Oh, God has given me a son, the son is free, he can roam anywhere like a wild ox.' But why can't daughters have the same freedom?" she questioned.

The actress pointed out the double standards in society, where boys can roam around alone without anyone questioning them.

"I'm not saying girls should go out at 8 or 9 [o'clock], I'm saying sons should also be asked to come home till evening."

At this, the host chimed that the entire Karachi would be deserted at night.

"At least it will be safe," she quickly responded.

She also questioned the values being taught to sons, saying, "You're training your daughters very well to cook and pray, but what are you teaching your sons?"
