In a bizarre incident, a dog has been issued an official residence certificate in India's Bihar.

The certificate with a photo of a golden retriever named ‘Dog Babu’ was issued through the state government’s RTPS portal by the Masaurhi Zone Office, the Times of India reported.

The certificate listed the dog's father's name as "Kutta Babu" and his mother as "Kutiya Devi".

His official address was mentioned as Mohalla Kaulichak, Ward No 15, Nagar Parishad Masaurhi in Patna district.

The document carried the digital signature of Revenue Officer Murari Chauhan.

Following the incident, the certificate was cancelled, and an FIR has been registered against the applicant, the computer operator involved, and the official who authorised the document.

Officials are now investigating how the certificate was generated and whether there was any misuse of digital credentials.

As digital signatures can only be applied using secure government-issued dongles, officials suspect a possible breach of protocol or unauthorised access to the system.

The incident has gone viral on social media, triggering jokes and memes.
