Wreckage of a passenger aircraft with 50 people, including five children, on board has been found scattered across Russia's far east after the plane disappeared while attempting to land.

The Antonov AN-24 aircraft had departed from Blagoveshchensk and was travelling to the town of Tynda in the Amur region when it lost contact with air traffic control and went off radar.

Rescue officials said debris of the flight was found by a Mi-8 helicopter dispatched to search the area.

The crash site was located in dense forest near Tynda, close to the Chinese border.

Footage released by emergency services showed the aircraft flying low shortly before the crash, in what appeared to be light rain. Separate images filmed by rescue teams revealed smoking wreckage strewn among the trees as debris is still burning.

There has been no official confirmation of deaths nor was any immediate signs of survivors from aerial observation.

Emergency responders have not yet reached the crash site on foot due to its remote location.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and further updates are expected as rescue teams work to access the scene.
