Indian Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday told Parliament that security forces had recovered Pakistani voter identity cards and locally produced chocolates from three individuals killed during a gun battle in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
He claimed the men were responsible for the recent attack in the Pahalgam area.
“I want to tell the entire nation that these were the three terrorists who killed our citizens ... and now all three have been killed,” Shah stated during a discussion on India-Pakistan tensions.
According to Indian authorities, the three suspects — described as Pakistani nationals — were allegedly involved in an assault on tourists in the scenic region of Pahalgam. Indian officials said the attackers fled into nearby forests before being engaged and killed in an operation on Monday.
Islamabad, however, has denied that the individuals were Pakistani citizens.
The incident came weeks after a four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan in May, which reportedly ended with a ceasefire on May 10, brokered by the United States. The conflict followed a series of cross-border operations — including India’s "Operation Sindoor" and Pakistan's retaliatory "Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos" — which saw India losing six fighter jets and drones.
In a separate development, security sources in Pakistan said that India has launched a new covert initiative named “Operation Mahadev.”
The operation, according to the reports, involves the use of Pakistani detainees held in Indian prisons in so-called “fake encounters,” which are staged to portray them as cross-border infiltrators.
