ISLAMABAD: A total of 21,951 Pakistanis were deported from Gulf countries between March 1 and July 13 this year, according to data presented by the Ministry for Narcotics Control in the National Assembly.
The figures were shared in a written response to a question during the National Assembly’s Question Hour on August 20.
The ministry said the deportations were carried out on various grounds, including overstaying, begging, illegal entry, drug-related offences, refusal of asylum, forged documentation, visa violations and security-related reasons.
According to the country-wise breakdown, Saudi Arabia accounted for the highest number of deportations, with 15,500 Pakistanis sent back, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 3,803 and Oman with 1,606.
A further 521 Pakistanis were deported from Bahrain, 429 from Qatar and 97 from Kuwait.
The data also showed that 4,628 absconders were deported, while 1,294 Pakistanis were sent back after serving jail terms. Another 968 were blacklisted, while 689 were deported for visa violations.
In addition, 342 Pakistanis were refused entry, while 1,155 were sent back after reporting lost passports.
The ministry said 472 Pakistanis were deported for begging.
The figures also included 6,662 deportations listed under the “Others” category, although the written response did not provide a further country-wise breakdown for this category.
