Scores of pro-Palestine supporters were arrested by the New York Police Department (NYPD) as they marched from various locations across the city toward the venue hosting the Met Gala 2024.

The demonstrators chanted in solidarity with Rafah and Gaza, while some burned the American flag and affixed stickers depicting the Palestinian flag onto statues of US soldiers at the site of the 107th Infantry Memorial.

Videos circulating on social media depict protestors advocating for Palestine, just days after the NYPD dispersed university students protesting in makeshift encampments in support of Gaza.

To thwart the protestors' march towards the gala, the NYPD put multiple barriers in the vicinity of the Met Gala venue and directed demonstrators to leave the roadways.

The protestors urged universities and the US government to sever ties with Israel in light of its atrocities in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of at least 34,745 Palestinians since early October.

Israel faces outrage and mounting criticism as its occupation force has pressed forward with its plan for a ground invasion of Rafah.

Reports emerged of military tanks advancing towards Rafah’s border crossing with Egypt.

Israeli airstrikes killed 12 people in Rafah early on Tuesday, adding to the death toll of 34,745 victims already lost in brutal military assaults since October 7.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians in Rafah have been ordered by the Israeli army to evacuate, fueling fears of an imminent ground assault on the southern Gaza city.

Despite Hamas accepting a ceasefire deal mediated by Qatar and Egypt on Monday, Israeli officials have asserted that the attack on Rafah will not be shelved.
