The death toll from the airstrike that struck Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in the city of Minab has risen to at least 148 and about 95 wounded, Iranian authorities said.
According to reports, most of the victims were students and some teachers and parents. Rescue teams continued searching through the rubble as the numbers grew.
Meanwhile, local prosecutors in Hormozgan province said the strike occurred during the first day of Israeli-US military operations against targets in Iran.
It was reported that around 170 students were present at the school at that time. The building was largely destroyed and images widely shared online show debris and schoolbags scattered amid rescue efforts.
Iranian officials have strongly condemned the strike as a “war crime,” with President Masoud denouncing the attack and calling for full accountability.
Moreover, he demanded immediate support for the injured and bereaved families.
However, neither Israel nor the United States has confirmed responsibility for the blast. The Israeli military said it was “not aware” of any US or Israeli strike on the school, and insisted it conducts operations with precision.
Furthermore, rights groups and observers have verified through video and satellite imagery that the damaged school seen in the aftermath matches the location in Minab, though the exact sequence of events and responsibility for the strike has not been independently confirmed.
