In a recent international disgrace for India, a latest Canadian documentary revealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direct involvement in ordering the assassination of pro-Khalistan Sikh leaders in Canada.

Titled 'The Fifth Estate,' the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) documentary exposed Modi's 'sinister role' in the killing of Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and the murder-for-hire plot targeting Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Compelling evidence of Modi's complicity in the deaths of various Sikh leaders led to a diplomatic fallout between Canada and India in 2023.

The rift resulted after the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 23, 2023. Prior to his murder, Nijjar received warnings from agencies about a serious threat to his life. Several other Sikh leaders also faced similar threats.

In September 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with evidence gathered from Western intelligence agencies, publicly accused the Indian government of orchestrating the killing of Sikh activists.

Last year in November, Western intelligence brought another revelation when details from a US indictment exposed Indian national Nikhil Gupta's plan to kill Nijjar and Pannu.

As per the indictment, the scheme targetting Pannun was thwarted when Gupta mistakenly sought assistance in hiring a hitman from an individual who happened to be a confidential informant working with US agencies.

Gupta was apprehended in the Czech Republic on June 30, 2023, facing charges related to conspiracy to commit murder, and is currently awaiting extradition to the US.

The CBC disclosed that the indictment disclosed how the Indian government was orchestrating at least three more killings in Canada last June.

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who escaped the threat, said in the documentary, "I have no doubt that Narendra Modi ordered the killing of Nijjar and therefore the culpability is on the Indian state."

He accused that Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval advised Modi on the plot to assassinate Sikh leaders. Modi then personally authorised Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Samant Goel to execute the assassination plans, which included diplomatic missions and agents under the guise of diplomats.

The CBC also aired footage of Indian TV shows announcing rewards for targetting Sikhs and glorifying their assassinations.

Interviews of five other pro-Khalistan Canadian Sikhs were also featured in “The Fifth Estate” documentary, who have been issued "duty to warn" notices by Canadian authorities, indicating a threat to their lives from the Indian state.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a prominent advocate for an independent Sikh state (Khalistan). He spearheaded the "Khalistan Referendum" campaign in Canada for the Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) group. He was a close ally of SFJ founder Pannun, who also faced an assassination plot by India.
