Indonesian woman allegedly held captive rescued in Hyderabad

An Indonesian woman, who allegedly claimed that she was lured to Pakistan on the pretext of marriage and later held captive by her husband, has been rescued from a house in Hyderabad.

According to media reports, the woman had complained to officials of the Sindh Women Development Department through a message, alleging that her husband had confined her to the house and taken possession of her passport and other legal documents.

Nasreen Palijo, in-charge of the department's complaints cell, contacted police after receiving the complaint and submitted an application to Naseem Nagar police seeking the woman's recovery.

However, Naseem Nagar police submitted a written response stating that no action could be taken regarding the woman's alleged presence at the location, according to officials.

Palijo subsequently approached the court. Acting on the court's orders, police raided a house in Gul Latif Society, Qasimabad, and recovered the Indonesian woman. The Women Police Station later presented the woman before the court.

Palijo said the law was equal for everyone and that harassing or unlawfully confining women was a serious offence.

She said the Women Development Department remained committed to protecting and promoting women's welfare and urged police officers to ensure full cooperation with the department in such cases.
