Pakistan’s former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been assigned key responsibilities by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), sources said on Sunday.
According to the sources, Sarfaraz will oversee matters related to Pakistan Shaheens and the Under-19 team. His duties include monitoring the performance of coaches for both squads and managing their tours.
Sarfaraz is also expected to accompany the teams during their training sessions and series held in Pakistan, the sources added.
Sarfaraz, a wicketkeeper-batter with a long international career, represented Pakistan in 54 Test matches, scoring 3,031 runs with four centuries and 21 fifties. In 117 ODIs, he scored 2,315 runs with two centuries and 11 half-centuries, while in 61 T20Is, he accumulated 818 runs, including three fifties.
The former captain also holds a notable leadership record. He led Pakistan to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy title, defeating India by 180 runs in the final, and maintained a 70% win rate during his tenure. In the 2019 Cricket World Cup, he guided the side to a 62.5% win rate, securing five wins in nine matches. In T20Is, he achieved a win rate of 78.37%, with 29 victories in 37 games.
Sarfaraz last played for Pakistan in a Test match against Australia in Perth in 2023.
