Sahibzada Farhan willing to continue as Pakistan’s T20 captain after Asian Games

Sahibzada Farhan says he would be willing to take on the Pakistan T20 captaincy again if given the chance after the Asian Games.

The 30-year-old batter was named captain of Pakistan’s men’s cricket team for the T20 competition at the Asian Games in Japan. He said leading the national side would be a matter of pride for him.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday at Pakistan’s training camp at the National Bank Stadium, Farhan said that he would be happy to remain captain if the opportunity came his way. The Pakistan Cricket Board has not announced any permanent change in the T20 captaincy.

Head coach Mike Hesson said a day earlier that Farhan’s appointment was aimed at giving him experience as a captain. He said the PCB and the selection committee would later decide whether he should continue in the role.

Media reports have suggested that the board is considering Farhan for a longer-term role. His performance as captain in Japan could be one of the factors in that decision.

Farhan, however, said his immediate priority was the Asian Games.

Pakistan will enter the 10-team T20 competition at the quarter-final stage. The team’s first match is scheduled for Sept 28, followed by the semi-finals on Oct 1 and the medal matches on Oct 3.

He said that he had been appointed captain for the Asian Games and would think about what comes next after the competition.
