Al-Ahli clinched the Saudi Super Cup title with a 5–3 penalty shootout victory over Al-Nassr, following a 2–2 draw in regulation time at Hong Kong Stadium on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo gave Al-Nassr the lead in the 40th minute, converting from the penalty spot after Ali Majrashi was penalised for handball.
The goal marked Ronaldo’s 100th for Al-Nassr, making him the first player in history to score 100 competitive goals for four different clubs.
Al-Ahli equalised in first-half stoppage time through Franck Kessie, who slotted a low finish past Al-Nassr goalkeeper Bento after a pass from new signing Enzo Millot.
In a closely contested second half, both teams created chances, with Ronaldo forcing a save from Edouard Mendy and Firas Al-Buraikan hitting the post.
Al-Nassr regained the lead in the 82nd minute through Marcelo Brozovic, who capitalised on a defensive error to score from inside the box.
However, Al-Ahli responded again in the 89th minute when Roger Ibanez headed in from a Riyad Mahrez corner following a misjudgment by the goalkeeper.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Al-Ahli converted all five of their attempts. Despite Ronaldo successfully converting his penalty, Al-Nassr missed one, handing Al-Ahli their second Saudi Super Cup title.
The win adds to Al-Ahli’s successful season, having also secured the AFC Champions League earlier this year.
