Mushtaq Ahmed, the former Pakistan leg-spinner and World Cup champion, has been named as the fresh addition to Bangladesh's coaching staff for spin bowling, according to a press release by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday.

Scheduled to commence his duties prior to the preparation camp this month for the upcoming T20 series against Zimbabwe, Mushtaq will remain with the Tigers until the culmination of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in the West Indies and USA.

With a rich coaching background, the 53-year-old has previously served as the spin bowling coach for England (2008-2014), West Indies (2018-19), and Pakistan (2020-22). Additionally, he held the role of Pakistan team's bowling consultant from 2014 to 2016.

Mushtaq's illustrious playing career saw him secure 185 wickets in 52 Tests at an average of 32.97, along with 161 wickets in 144 ODIs for Pakistan. Notably, his pivotal contribution to Pakistan's World Cup victory in 1992, marked by memorable dismissals like that of Graeme Hick with his trademark googly in the final, highlights his expertise in the craft.

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Mushtaq remarked in a statement released by the BCB, "It is a tremendous honor for me to join the Bangladesh cricket team as their spin bowling coach. I eagerly anticipate the role and aim to impart my experience to the players, who I believe are highly receptive to coaching. I firmly believe they are one of the most formidable teams in the circuit."
