KARACHI : Two more cases of monkeypox,or mpox, have been reported in Sindh, bringing the toll to 95 this year.According to reports, the virus has claimed 11 lives so far.

According to the recent reports from Dow University's laboratory, the latest cases involve 21-year old Salman Ali and 23-year old Ishrat Fatima. Both patients who were tested positive for the virus, are receiving treatment at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital, officials said.

The emergence of additional cases has underscored the importance of continued surveillance and preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus.

According to the data, 71 of the 95 cases involved men, while 24 involved women. The people aged between 30 to 39 were the most affected ones.

Meanwhile, 23 children up to the age of nine also tested positive for mpox. The highest number of cases was recorded in April.

Experts said mpox spreads through close physical or skin-to-skin contact with an infected person, as well as through exposure to lesions, bodily fluids or contaminated items. They advised suspected cases to avoid close contact with others to help prevent further transmission.

Symptoms of mpox include fever, headaches, body aches, weakness, swollen lymph nodes and skin rashes or blisters. People experiencing these symptoms have been urged to avoid close contact with others and seek prompt medical assessment and diagnostic testing.
